In the Kiosk tab of the Android policy, you can identify three different types of kiosk usage: Android Kiosk, Urmobo Kiosk, and Urmobo Launcher. Each functions differently, as explained below:
Android Kiosk
Android Kiosk is the default kiosk mode built into the Android system, available factory-installed on the device. In this mode, only apps made available through the Play Store are accessible on the screen. Additionally, it is not possible to customize the wallpaper, which always remains blue, as shown in the image below:
Urmobo Kiosk
The Urmobo Kiosk is Urmobo MDM’s own kiosk mode. When enabled, Android notifications are disabled by default, and whenever the user presses the Home key, they are redirected to the Urmobo kiosk.
This mode allows customization of the wallpaper with an image in .jpg or .png formats, according to the client’s preference. Since the status bar is disabled, the user cannot access device settings unless they are explicitly allowed on the screen.
Because Android notifications are automatically blocked, if it is necessary to receive them, the option “Enable Lock Task Mode” must be activated. This feature allows app notifications to be shown but has the side effect of blocking all packages that are not permitted by the policy, so it should be used with caution.
Urmobo Launcher
The last option is the Urmobo Launcher, which, like Urmobo Kiosk, replaces the home screen with the Urmobo MDM kiosk.
The difference is that, with Urmobo Launcher, Android notifications are not disabled by default, so there is no need to enable Lock Task mode. Additionally, the status bar remains enabled, allowing the user full access to its functionalities, including device settings.
