Some errors during the Apple device provisioning process are common. Below, we list these errors and how to resolve them if they occur.
1) Message: "This iPhone/iPad is supervised by another computer and cannot be used with this computer."
This error occurs when connecting a managed iOS device to a computer. The probable cause of this error is that iTunes pairing is disabled in the policy, which means no interaction with iTunes is allowed. The solution is to change the policy to allow pairing through iTunes.
2) Message: "NSURLErrorDomain – 1012"
This error occurs when trying to set up Urmobo MDM using Apple Configurator. It happens when Apple Configurator has cached an expired certificate.
Solution:
Remove the current profile from Apple Configurator, download a new profile from the Urmobo portal, import it into Apple Configurator, and repeat the device configuration process.
3) Message: "An unexpected error has occurred with iPad."
This error occurs in Apple Configurator 2. It usually happens when the device is connected to a Wi-Fi network before starting the setup process in Apple Configurator.
Solution:
Reset the device, open Apple Configurator 2, prepare the iPad, and only then connect the device to a Wi-Fi network during the configuration process.
4) Message: "An unexpected error has occurred: The device returned an unexpected status. (CommandFormatError) [com.apple.configurator.MobileDeviceKit.error]"
This error occurs when attempting to update the device to iOS 11 at the same time as configuring the MDM.
Solution:
First, complete the device update to iOS 11. Only after the update is finished should you proceed with the MDM configuration.
5) Message: "A cloud configuration is already present on this device."
This error occurs during the device activation process.
Solution:
First, disable the "Find My iPhone/iPad" feature. To do this, on the device, go to Settings > Tap your name > iCloud, then turn off "Find My iPhone".
After that, connect the device to Apple Configurator and perform a factory reset. Once completed, repeat the configuration process.
6) Message: "Unable to verify the server’s enrollment URL."
This error occurs when attempting to prepare the device using Apple Configurator.
Solution:
Remove the current profile from Apple Configurator, download a new profile from the Urmobo portal, import it into Apple Configurator, and repeat the device configuration process.
7) Message: "An unexpected error has occurred with 'iPhone'."
This error occurs when preparing the device in Apple Configurator and is caused by a bug in the software. It usually happens when configuring multiple devices in sequence or if the device is already configured.
Solution:
Check for available updates for Apple Configurator and try restarting your Mac.
8) Message: "An unexpected error has occurred with 'iPhone'. The device is not connected."
This error occurs when trying to prepare the device using Apple Configurator. The probable cause is that the device is losing its connection during the preparation process.
Solution:
Check your connection cable and the ports on both your device and your Mac to ensure they are working properly.
9) Message: "Unable to find the supervision identity for the organization '_________'"
This error occurs when trying to prepare the device in Apple Configurator.
Solution:
Remove the current profile from Apple Configurator, download a new profile from the Urmobo portal, import it into Apple Configurator, and repeat the device configuration process.
